(member American Shetland Sheepdog Association since 1978)
KARASHOME begin like so
many kennels with the purchase of a pet. Our first was Kara,
Coburn's Mikara, CD. Our kennel was named for her (Kara's home or Karashome). My
husband began working with her in obedience and I felt left out, so back to the newspaper
and here came Cisco. Little did I know the impact he would have
on my life and the lives of many. (Read about him in Sheltie stories.) He lived for
14 years and 1 week. He had a wild obedience career and ended up being the oldest dog, any
breed, to complete a United Kennel Club CDX title, earning his 3rd leg at 13 years, 2
months and 16 days old with a 1st, a 2nd and a 4th in Open B, qualifying for the Gaines
Regionals along the way. He is, was, and will always be my #1.
Meanwhile, my daughter Elizabeth (Ruggles) became
interested in Junior Showmanship and became the handler in the family. With
Babinette Buttermilk Sky (given to her by
Libby Babin) she became the Top Junior Sheltie Handler in the country for 5 years, a
Finalist at Westminster in 1980 and Best Junior Handler at the ASSA National the 1st 2
years it was offered. Elizabeth finished Sky's Championship with 2 Specialty WDs. She
finished CH. Tull-E-Ho Terra Cotta for owner Kathy Hamilton with a BOB from the classes
over specials at the Greater Milwaukee Specialty for 5 pts. Elizabeth also handled
several other breeds including Collies, a Soft Coated Wheaton and many Pulis. (to see what
Elizabeth is doing today click on Elizabeth's
page)
In 1975 we acquired our foundation bitch, Babinette
Bittersweet (Bridget) from Libby Babin and a few years later
acquired a Ch. Stonewall Michaelangelo daughter, Karashome's Sheer Elegance (Elfie).
Everything we have today goes back to these two bitches.

KARASHOME's policy has always been to breed for
Temperament, Soundness and Breed Type. Our breeding stock is OFAed and CERFed.
Because we prefer that our babies go to a home where they will remain for life, most
puppies that we don't keep for ourselves are sold as pets. Our pets go on a limited
registration (cannot be bred) and with a contract specifying that they are to be RETURNED TO
US if the owner can no longer keep them for whatever reason.
